If you want to make a statement with your lighting then you need look no further than this stunner - from Porta Romana who have been making beautifully strong statement lighting for interiors for many a year.

This highly unusual chandelier is called The Urchin, and is also available in white, gold and silver - this one is called Electric Blue! They say the inspiration for the Urchin chandelier came from the form of a Turkish hazel seed pod! I was thinking more about sea urchins when I first saw this so just goes to show!! It’s like an exploding bluebell coloured powder keg! I love it!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is constructed from metal despite it’s velvety finish, and is a whopping 1 metre across it’s diameter and so needs a large space to really be appreciated - I’d be looking to showcase this in a stairway or hallway void, it certainly would stop visitors in their tracks upon first sight!

A visit to your local charity shops to find some pre loved treasures, makes this very eco friendly too! Recycling the coloured glasses you find, giving them a new home, they can be an eclectic collection of sizes and colours. What stories could each piece tell?

The cleverest lady in the universe is also the best designer I know and endlessly surrounds us with amazing colour palettes from which we can draw inspiration.

So when you are doubting yourself, in selecting a new colour scheme, just head outdoors and see what Mother Nature would do.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nature for me is the biggest inspiration and also for creating harmony and good health and mental well being. I count myself as a biophilic designer, well human being really! We are not meant to be shut up indoors 90% of the time, working, or shopping, watching TV and social media! So if we can include in our interiors a fantastic view of nature, or recreate it with plants and other sensory stimulus, like the sound of water, natural textures, or beautiful scents, this will improve our health and mood.

Biophilia means love for nature incorporated in built environments with greenery and natural elements. Biophilic design elements enhance air quality, airflow, circadian rhythm, heart rate and ordinary human health.

The word isn’t a hugely pretty sounding one unfortunately; apparently ‘philia’ means to have a love, fondness or craving for something, so the bio part is the nature!

Often there is NO WRONG ANSWER in Interior Design! There are many amazing schemes that could all work beautifully, but there is just too much choice! That is why my clients call me in to help!

However, when you are dealing with the very structure and layout of your home, and the opportunity arises to install something stunning and architectural, our wish list is where we need to turn to work through the many dozens of design options available and hone it down to the key elements.

Overall it needs to be enduring and relevant, and if we project forward 5-10 years, will we still love it? Taking away the temptation to give into ‘todays trends’ and refining the essence of what you love in something is a hard task but really valuable to retain the potency and clarity of a design for many years to come.

This stunning staircase is elegant and timeless, the curve and placement are spot on, and the choice of materials is limited and strong. The panelling brings an up to date feel to a period style which could be dressed in a traditional or modern way.

There is more and more research and understanding of how the colours we surround ourselves with affect how we feel, and how we can curate that to achieve wonderfully aligned environments. In a world where we can sometimes reinvent, I’ve been loving this in-between pink peach adventure of the last few months! Not being an avid fan of either colour in its true form, the pre-dawn tranquility of this mix is just beautiful!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In fact just scrolling though my feed, I can see a definite move in that direction, subliminally this colour has been on its way and will find its place in the hall of fame.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a really versatile colour, use it with sage green, and creams, or bring in a deep chocolate for an additional cosy feel. Also perfect with greys and burgundy, there is not a lot that this can’t work with. It could take a hot fuchsia or coral alongside it beautifully too, so don’t be locked into the pastel palette either.

My dream home design changes on a daily or hourly basis depending on what is currently inspiring me, but I don't think I'd go far wrong if I ended up installing a kitchen like this!!

Kitchen design is one of the fastest evolving areas of home interior design. Areas of high technology and slick materials, they also need to be able to bear the wear and tear of the busiest room in the house. It's a tall order!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I love this design for the strong use of it's main materials, being wood and marble, the monolithic design of the kitchen island with the extremely usable lower slab of wood softening the space as the kitchen table, and oodles of storage space, bringing it back from just fabulous to also family friendly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This space would stand up to the high use required and still be easy to maintain, and that is an important element of good interior design.

Trying to distill what this certain recipe for success is for each person is quite a puzzle, and when I meet my clients I aim to get a sense from them of the markers and signposts that will turn them right around as much as the ones that say 'this way!'

Acrylic pouring is addictive and once you start….. you can’t stop!! It’s very enjoyable and every single time a different result is achieved!!

A really fun activity to do with children too, be warned, it’s a little messy but if you prep carefully all is well!! And it’s water based paint so washes out easily!!

Whenever I am asked what I do for a living, and say "Interior Designer", I always feel the need to qualify it somehow!

I think it's sometimes perceived as a job that involves just flicking though a paint chart and throwing some cushions on a sofa!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Perhaps it's just a bit of personal insecurity in a job title!!

We celebrate, play, eat, sleep, raise our children, mourn, plan, party and often work, at home. With our families and friends. I think these are the most important times in our lives. I believe the quality of our lives can be affected by the colours & spaces that surround us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's scientific too, how the balance of colour & light affects our physche. Have you ever felt just uplifted by wearing certain colours? It's the same at home too.

So I've done my time in education, and have studied architectural design principles, about layout and flow, materials, soft furnishings, balancing colour, light and texture, and a million other details and then honed these skills over the 20 plus years of my Interior Design career.

I have posted this image before but it was all out of synch in my chequerboard Insta and really bugging me, so it had to be tweaked! I know, first world problems but.....

The magnificent Cole & Son Wallpaper in the rich charcoal tones with the copper art deco pattern, was the DNA of this design.

My client and I had taken a quick trip down to London's Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, for sourcing and inspiration, and this just goes to show how those few precious hours impacted the whole project.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was absolutely love at first sight for her and the wallpaper. And the scheme was born. From there, it was all about careful deliberation and full on going with the sheer drama of this colour scheme, and not taking any easy exits! Swipe through to see more.

It is absolutely and indulgently a room for socialising and watching TV, snuggling down and chilling out! It doesn't need to double up as anything else.

Rich details in other fabrics for cushions, a tactile sofa, other art deco elements in the styling and furniture and a knock out chandelier to boot.

I take the responsibility very seriously and when comments like this are received, it completely makes all those months of work worthwhile.

I am very lucky to do a job I love, although running your own business does mean doing mundane parts like admin and paying bills alongside the good stuff!

This freestanding washbasin is called Dicroico and is from Artelinea.it. It is made from glass panels with a dichroic film applied, so that the light changes as it passes through.

I love interiors, I love art, I love what man has created and devised through hard work and the design inspiration that it takes to make it. I am in awe of artisans and visionaries. But walking through a flower market in Munich, I am stopped in my tracks by the colour and structure that Mother Nature sets before us day in and day out. Seeing what is in front of our eyes and it doesn’t cost us anything, to just look upon it. What is going to inspire you today?

I keep seeing these amazing paper sculptures that look a bit like an exploding vat of paint or powder, some in the most incredible colours, and have found such an inspiring portfolio of work, that I wanted to share with you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These are the works of Dutch artist Peter Gentenaar, who started out as as a printmaker. The paper couldn't fulfil the deep 3d quality of his etchings, so he decided to make his own paper, thin and strong and, reinforced with very thin ribs of bamboo.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
His sculptures start out as totally 2-dimensional, coloured sheet of pulp laying on his vacuum table. This pulls out the water and the forms in his work are caused by pulp drying and shrinking in unison, by up to 40%.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He says that his inspiration is a plant bud, which, in spring, unfolds into a leaf. In autumn, this leaf falls off of the tree, the water evaporates and a small web of fibres curling around the spine is the new form.

You can totally see this in the many artworks and installations that he has accomplished over the years.

Artists work and study for so many years to perfect their style and find a way to represent what their imagination is driving them to create.

It’s a great lesson that achieving amazing things doesn’t happen overnight.

My love affair with Battersea Power Station starte

My love affair with Battersea Power Station started when I used to commute into work on the train in London, bypassing the giant hulk in a derelict state every day.

The sheer size and scale of this building is really hard to comprehend and it's ridiculously unrealistic size, along with those gravity defying chimneys, make this one of the most memorable modern buildings. Willy Wonka on steroids!

It's history is equally interesting, and although I know some say it is actually quite ugly, I love it's haughty, I am here, deal with it, presence!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the 2000's I worked in an interior design studio in Vauxhall, and at one time there was rumours of us working on this amazing icon to transform it into a hotel and apartments. Sadly it didn't come to anything until quite a few years later, but it is so brilliant that now, just 2 decades later, it is blooming and booming once again. Some very lucky people even get to live here!!
